Resumen

En general, se conoce con el nombre de Misl los estados soberanos de la Confederación sij,​​ que existió durante el siglo XVIII en la región del Punyab , en el subcontinente indio , tras el colapso del Imperio mogol. Los Misl formaron una mancomunidad que fue descrita, por parte de Antoine Polier, como una «república aristocrática».​ Aunque los diferentes Misl disponían de un poder desigual, y cada uno de ellos intentaba expandir su territorio y acceder a los recursos a expensas de los demás, actuaban conjuntamente en relación con los otros estados.​ Celebraban reuniones bianuales entre ellos, siempre al Sarbat Khalsa de Amritsar.​
