概覽
法蘭西第一帝國，1804年至1808年正式名稱為法蘭西共和國（法語：République Française），1809年至1815年正式名稱為法蘭西帝國（法語：Empire Français；拉丁語：Imperium Francicum），是法國歷史的重要時期，為拿破崙一世統治的帝國政權。此政權分為兩段時期，1804年5月18日元老院法令授與拿破崙為法國皇帝，至1814年4月13日拿破崙簽署《楓丹白露條約》退位；1815年3月20日拿破崙返回杜伊勒里宮，至同年7月臨時政府解散為止，國祚僅10年。該國承襲法國大革命的諸多思想，與反法同盟爆發數次大規模戰爭，是法國歷史上統治歐洲領土面積最廣的政權。
拿破崙在法國大革命戰爭中崛起，於1796年僅26歲時成為「義大利軍團」司令，後於1799年發動霧月政變，成為共和國第一執政。1804年5月18日，元老院法令正式授與拿破崙為法國皇帝。帝國初期軍力強盛，拿破崙率軍擊敗第三次反法同盟，成為中歐主宰，並於神聖羅馬帝國解體後，組建萊茵邦聯，將德意志諸邦納為附庸。1806年至1807年，法國擊敗普魯士王國與俄羅斯帝國領導的第四次反法同盟，建立大陸封鎖體系。1808年至1809年，法國先後入侵西班牙王國與奧地利帝國，並於1810年吞併附庸國荷蘭王國，帝國威勢達到頂峰，全國人口達4,000萬餘。
1812年，拿破崙率60萬大軍入侵俄羅斯，意圖在邊境地帶殲滅俄軍主力，以強迫俄羅斯遵守大陸封鎖政策。然而俄軍不斷撤退，法軍雖佔領莫斯科，控制版圖達到極盛，但因疾病與天候原因損失慘重。1813年，歐洲諸國組成第六次反法同盟，在德意志戰場擊敗兵力不足、缺少馬匹的法軍，並於1814年入侵法國本土，迫使拿破崙於4月13日簽署《楓丹白露條約》退位。1815年2月，拿破崙自流放地厄爾巴島返回法國，於3月20日返回杜伊勒里宮重建帝國。同年6月，法軍先發制人入侵荷蘭聯合王國，在利尼之戰等役擊敗聯軍，但於6月18日大敗滑鐵盧。6月22日，拿破崙宣布退位；7月，法國臨時政府解散。波旁王朝歸國，法蘭西王國重建。
