義大利共和國（義大利語：Repubblica Italiana，發音：[reˈpubblika itaˈljaːna]），簡稱義大利（義大利語：Italia，[iˈtaːlja] ，中國大陸、香港作意大利），是位於歐洲南部的議會制民主共和國，主要由位於南歐地中海邊呈靴型的亞平寧半島、西西里島、薩丁尼亞島和一些地中海內的小島嶼組成。首都為羅馬。其北方的阿爾卑斯山地區與法國、瑞士、奧地利以及斯洛維尼亞接壤，南瀕地中海與馬爾他及北非諸國相望。領土內還包圍著兩個微型國家——聖馬利諾、梵蒂岡，以及一個主權實體——馬爾他騎士團，而在瑞士擁有座落於盧加諾湖湖畔的義大利坎波內這個外飛地。全國行政上劃分為20個大區（其中5個為自治區）、107個省級行政單位與7,896個市鎮。根據2026年統計，義大利人口為5,894萬，目前人口處於負增長，但仍是歐洲人口第6多的國家，在世界上排名第25位。領土面積為302,073平方公里，人口密度約每平方公里195人，屬於亞熱帶地中海型氣候。
義大利地區是古代歐洲民族及文化的搖籃之一，曾孕育出伊特魯里亞等古文明；而包含羅馬帝國在內的古羅馬國家之擴張，使得作為首都的羅馬在數個世紀成爲地中海及歐洲的政治中心，更在基督教成為羅馬帝國國教後的千餘年間成為西方世界的宗教中心，尤其是天主教會的中樞所在。羅馬人吸收並發展了希臘文化，羅馬文化的各項事物如拉丁字母、拉丁語、公曆、羅馬法、參議院、公共浴室、城市自來水、路橋和地暖等影響了西方甚至全世界。當羅馬帝國在西部的統治瓦解後，義大利遭受了多次外族入侵，包括倫巴底人、東哥德人等日耳曼民族，之後還有諾曼人等，東羅馬帝國亦曾一度重新統治義大利地區。中世紀時，義大利城邦產生了航海、金融、會計、大學等影響近代世界發展的事物。14世紀後，它們成為文藝復興的發源地，引領歐洲進入現代。
