Überblick

Das spanische Kolonialreich (spanisch: Imperio español) erstreckte sich über Amerika, Afrika, Asien und Ozeanien, mit einem territorialen Schwerpunkt in Amerika. Im Zenit seiner Macht war die spanische Kolonialgroßmacht eines der größten Reiche in der Menschheitsgeschichte und zudem eines der ersten globalen Reiche. Es bestand vom 15. Jahrhundert bis zur zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts.
