概覽

羅馬帝國是古典時代統治環地中海地區、部分歐洲、西亞和北非地區的帝國，為羅馬共和國的繼承者。前27年，屋大維崛起並建立奧古斯都元首制，共和國轉型為帝國。3世紀末，帝國數度被分為東西羅馬，最終西羅馬帝國於476年滅亡，而東羅馬帝國則持續存在至1453年君士坦丁堡陷落。古代中國稱該國為大秦或海西國，於明代經天主教傳教士利瑪竇音譯後改稱羅馬。
