概覽

愛爾蘭王國（愛爾蘭語：Ríocht na hÉireann；英語：Kingdom of Ireland）先後是英格蘭王國及大不列顛王國的附庸國，從1542年存續至1800年。它由英格蘭以及後續的大不列顛君主統治，並與該君主的其他領土建立了共主邦聯。這個王國名義上由國王或女王從都柏林城堡統治，並由國王任命的總督負責管理。它有自己的立法機構（愛爾蘭議會）、貴族制度（愛爾蘭貴族制度）、法律制度和國家教會（愛爾蘭教會）。

愛爾蘭王國前身是1177年英格蘭入侵後由英格蘭人統治的眾多封建領地。16世紀初時，英格蘭因頻繁內戰對愛爾蘭島的控制力度逐漸減弱，愛爾蘭島上大部分地區重回傳統的蓋爾裔部落酋長控制。1542年，英格蘭國王亨利八世根據1542年愛爾蘭王權法案成為「愛爾蘭國王」並正式開始重新鞏固英格蘭王權對愛爾蘭的控制，引發了德斯蒙德叛亂和九年戰爭，直至17世紀方才大致平定。平亂期間，英格蘭王權大肆沒收當地蓋爾裔部落的土地，並從英格蘭本土遷徙大量移民以行殖民之實。

在早期，王國的認可有限，因為沒有一個歐洲的天主教國家承認亨利和他的繼承人愛德華為愛爾蘭的君主；雖然天主教女王瑪麗一世被教宗保祿四世承認為愛爾蘭女王。在這個天主教徒占人口的大多數，但在這個從17世紀後期開始由新教徒統治的王國，天主教徒被官方歧視。這種歧視是導致幾次衝突爆發的主要原因之一，其中包括了愛爾蘭聯盟戰爭（1641-53年）、愛爾蘭威廉黨人戰爭（1689-91年）、阿馬騷亂（1780-90年）和1798年愛爾蘭起義。
