Überblick
Das Timuridenreich war das von den turko-mongolischen Timuriden eroberte und beherrschte Reich, das von 1370 bis 1507 unter anderem im Gebiet der heutigen Staaten Afghanistan, Iran und Usbekistan bestand. Begründer und bekanntester Herrscher war Timur. Hauptstadt war anfangs Samarkand, später Herat. Nach Timurs Eroberungszügen war das Reich unter seinen Nachfahren durch eine weitgehend friedliche Herrschaft geprägt. Es kam zu einer bedeutenden Blüte von Kunst, Kultur und Wissenschaft, die auch als „timuridische Renaissance“ bezeichnet wird.
