Die Safawiden (auch Safaviden; persisch صفویان, DMG Ṣafawīyān; aserbaidschanisch صفویلر Səfəvilər) waren eine aus Ardabil in der iranischen Region Aserbaidschan stammende Herrscherdynastie in Persien, die von 1501 bis 1722 regierte und den schiitischen Islam als Staatsreligion etablierte.
