Überblick

Kanada (englisch und französisch Canada, Aussprache: [ˈkænədə] bzw. [kanaˈda]) ist ein föderaler Staat in Nordamerika, der zwischen dem Atlantik im Osten und dem Pazifik im Westen liegt und nordwärts bis zum Arktischen Ozean reicht. Bundeshauptstadt ist Ottawa, die bevölkerungsreichste Stadt ist Toronto, das zugleich die größte englischsprachige Stadt des Landes und kulturelles und wirtschaftliches Zentrum des anglophonen Kanada ist. Die an ihrer Einwohnerzahl gemessen zweitgrößte Stadt des Landes und zugleich seine größte französischsprachige Stadt ist Montreal, die ebenfalls ein wichtiges Zentrum darstellt.
