Überblick

Die Sowjetunion (kurz SU, russisch Советский Союз Sowetski Sojus; vollständige amtliche Bezeichnung: Union der Sozialistischen Sowjetrepubliken, kurz UdSSR, russisch Sojus Sowetskich Sozialistitscheskich Respublik (SSSR), IPA: [sɐˈjus sɐˈvjet͡skjɪx sət͡sɨəljɪˈsjtjit͡ɕɪskjɪx rjɪˈspubljɪk]) war ein von der Kommunistischen Partei der Sowjetunion (KPdSU) zentralistisch regierter, föderativer Vielvölker- und Einparteienstaat, dessen Territorium sich über Osteuropa und den Kaukasus bis nach Zentral- und über das gesamte Nordasien erstreckte. Sie wurde am 30. Dezember 1922 durch die Bolschewiki gegründet und durch die Alma-Ata-Deklaration am 21. Dezember 1991 als Union, bestehend aus 15 Unionsrepubliken, aufgelöst. Mehrere Regionen der Sowjetunion boykottierten das zur Auflösung führende Referendum. Die völkerrechtlichen Rechte und Pflichten in internationalen Organisationen werden seitdem von der Russischen Föderation wahrgenommen.
